Fluoride for Sensitive Teeth
Professional fluoride treatments help Merion Village Dentistry patients experience less decay and tooth sensitivity.
Topical fluoride treatments have long been used by dentists to reduce the risk of developing cavities, and we make fluoride an effective part of our preventive dental care. Each fluoride treatment is delivered after cleanings when teeth are able to soak up more of the mineral and strengthen the enamel as much as possible.
How is professional fluoride different from over the counter fluoride rinses or fluoridated water?
- Immediate remedy for sensitive teeth
- Seals off the pores of teeth
- Provides the best remineralization of weak, cavity-prone enamel
- Reduces the risk of cavities in areas of gum recession
- Reverses early decay
- Protects white spots/circles from forming around braces
We provide fluoride after ever pediatric dental cleaning, and to adults that battle frequent cavities, tooth sensitivity, or have weak tooth enamel. If in a gel form, a tray is worn in the mouth for 3-5 minutes. Varnish fluoride is brushed directly onto the teeth and stays in place all day.
What happens after your fluoride treatment is applied?
Applying fluoride takes only a few minutes. We ask that you don’t brush your teeth until several hours later, to allow optimal mineral uptake on your teeth. If you receive fluoride gel, we also ask that you don’t eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after your appointment. Patients that receive fluoride treatment do not have to wait before having a drink or meal.
