Extractions

At Merion Village Dental, we always seek to help our patients preserve and restore their natural teeth.

However, there are times when teeth will need to be removed to pave the way for a healthy mouth. Our state of the art facility allows us to comfortable and gently extract teeth while implementing the best methods of pain management available in the field of dentistry.

We may recommend a tooth extraction in the event of:

  • Severely decayed or damaged teeth
  • Excessive crowding and orthodontic realignment
  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • Retained baby teeth
  • Teeth compromised by medical treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation
  • Fabrication of a denture prosthesis

An infected or decayed tooth will only cause the condition to spread to adjacent teeth if it is allowed to go untreated. Our dentists will discuss any treatments possible to preserve your tooth, such as endodontic therapy. If no other options are available, then moving forward with an extraction (and any necessary tooth replacement treatments) will be needed to prevent the spread of disease to other teeth.

What to expect during an extraction appointment

Most extractions are fairly straightforward and require little time to complete. More time is spent making the patient comfortable with local anesthesia (and laughing gas or sedation upon request.) After the tooth is removed, we will review home care protocols that aid in successful healing of your extraction site.
