If you think you know about dental implants, think again! They’ve changed a lot since implants were first introduced several decades ago. Implants are now regarded to be the best treatment possible for the replacement of missing teeth.
How Do Dental Implants Work?
Dental implants can do what other types of replacement treatments can’t. Providing permanent restoration, dental implants:
- Prevent other teeth from being altered in the process
- Support crowns, bridges, or even dentures
- Are stronger than natural teeth
- Encourage new bone formation in the jaw
- Correct bite problems experienced by missing teeth
We place dental implants in two visits.
The process of getting dental implants involves an initial consultation where we will take digital x-rays and provide a bone assessment for compatibility with an implant. We will walk you through your custom treatment plan and schedule your implant appointment.
Every implant begins with the surgical placement of a titanium root into the area where the tooth is missing. Titanium is a biocompatible material that encourages new bone growth and support. Once the surgical site has properly healed and new bone is formed, an abutment is placed onto the implant root. This abutment can support the final fixed prosthesis – either a porcelain crown or dental bridge that will create a permanent “new” tooth!
